What AI subscriptions cost a year, and what the money actually buys
Sixteen paid tiers from five vendors, priced by the year and dated. The pattern underneath all of them is that you are no longer buying a feature set, you are buying an allowance.
Apple App Store in-app purchase list (ChatGPT app) — read on 23 August 2026.
Also sold at $19.99/mo — $239.88 a year if you keep it for twelve months.
“Not published” means we did not find a renewal price stated by the vendor on the date we checked. It is not a claim that the price changes on renewal, and it is not a claim that it doesn’t.
ChatGPT Plus is $200.00 a year or $19.99 a month, both read on 23 August 2026 from the in-app purchase list for the ChatGPT app.
Twelve monthly payments come to $239.88, so buying the year up front saves $39.88, or about 17%. That is the only discount available anywhere on the ChatGPT ladder: Go below it and both Pro tiers above it were listed monthly only on the date we checked.
Plus is the tier most people mean when they say they pay for ChatGPT. What separates it from the tiers either side of it is not a different product, it is a different allowance — the two tiers above are named Pro 5x and Pro 20x, which is a vendor telling you plainly that the ladder is measured in usage.
No renewal price was stated on the list we read, so the renewal column is Not published.

This is a price record, not a review. We do not rate the product, we track what it charges. The method is on how we check prices; mistakes end up in the corrections log.
